A Daybook of Simple Abundance

Over twenty years ago this book caught my eye in a bookshop and I couldn't resist buying it as the title hooked me in and the concept of a daily reading appealed to me. I was in my late 20's at the time. I enjoyed dipping into it each day and acquired a number of ideas that I have consciously or subconsciously woven into my life.

The main one is the concept of gratitude journalling which I started doing on her recommendation. I remember going out and specifically looking for a nice notebook as instructed and finding a gorgeous little hand-made book that was made just for this purpose. Inside was a quote from my favourite author so I took it as a sign and bought it. I filled it out and really enjoyed how it made me find the good things in my day so I had things to write in it at night. I started it when my eldest child was a baby so I enjoy looking back on the things I wrote as it triggers so many wonderful memories. I have used gratitude journalling off and on over the last 20 years - especially when life is challenging and I find it really helpful.

I've chosen to revisit this book again this year now that I am in my early 50's at a different stage of my life. I am really enjoying reading what it has to say as it seems so much more relevant to me now than it did back then - maybe because the author was closer to my current age when she wrote it so it is more relatable. She was writing about a number of things that weren't commonplace in the '90's when she wrote it but are more so now and I and finding it almost prophetic the things she is saying.

I am currently enjoying my morning ritual of reading a day's entry and contemplating how it might fit with the current stage of my life and I am definitely feeling more abundant as a result! No money spent yet I feel a new layer to my life that is worth so much to me.
