A Renovation Project

While out visiting my brother and sister-in-law recently I managed to acquire a new project - like I need anymore!! Mt sister-in-law's clever father made this very cool telephone table back in the 60's - from the time when phones were still attached to the walls and you had to actually take the time to stop and be still while you talked to someone! Remember that?

My sister-in-law didn't really want it but she didn't want to get rid of it either and it was sitting getting grimy in their shed. She said I could have it so I've brought it home and taken it on as a project to renovate and take up to our retro A-frame holiday house. It has been sitting staring at me (and cluttering up our garage!) for a while now so I finally managed to make a start.

Giving it a good clean first made an amazing difference. For a start I didn't realise the piece of timber was going to be mahogany and it cleaned up beautifully. It will need to refinishing to buff out some scratches but not too onerous. The red leather seat was a bit more challenging and it has some marks that seem resinous some I will need to have a think about how to remove them without taking the colour out of the leather. The white painted metal is the part that I am deciding what to do with. Do I just leave it chipped - it's not too bad - or do I look at getting it repainted? I need to get 2 pieces of glass cut for the 2 shelves where that is mean to go and then it should look good again.

I'll keep you posted on progress and show you the finished product. I'm looking forward to giving this crafted piece a new life and purpose again and hopefully keep it going for a few more generations to enjoy!
