Feet First
Four years ago for my daughter's 13th birthday she had some girlfriends here for a sleepover and we decided to make it a pamper party so set up a beauty parlor in the living room. She wanted to have manicures and pedicures so I bought a foot spa as I had always wanted one and it made for an inexpensive party as I had everything else. We set the coffee table out with beauty utensils, creams and lotions and a range of nail polishes, put on soft music, lit candles and put a calming picture up on the TV screen. We had fun. I was the beautician and the girls giggled and enjoyed the pampering.
I was looking through a cupboard today and found the foot spa in its box tucked away down the bottom. I had forgotten I even owned it and have only used it once since her party. Despite always wanting one I have not taken the time to use it so I decided today was the day. My feet were busy all day and, after several days of wearing jandals and developing dry heels, they needed grooming. I have a few nail polishes sitting unused so decided to make my feet look pretty. It was a nice treat!
I trimmed my nails, smoothed my heels then soaked my feet in the spa while I read my book. I used the vibration setting which was oddly relaxing and felt pleased I was making use of something I owned. I exfoliated and used cuticle remover cream then painted my nails. Finally I massaged a foot cream all over. Done - cared for feet again!
I often think as I walk past the nail salons at the mall what it would be like to go and have a pedicure done but, to be honest, the smell emanating from inside makes me feel a bit ill and I know they will charge a fortune for something I can do for nothing at home. Hopefully I won't wait another couple of years before I get the foot spa out again! Now I have just have to convince my daughter to do a foot massage and paint my nails next time...
