Summertime and the Living is Easy!
Today we have had some hot temperatures and it looks like it is going to continue again tomorrow. The predicted high for the city today was 36 degrees C and around 33 where we live. Fortunately it didn't start to get too hot until later in the afternoon so I was able to get some things done in the garden. By the afternoon we decided we would take a ride out to one of our nearby rivers where there is plenty of options for shade. We hadn't been there for quite some time and it was so nice to spend time watching the river. And it was free entertainment!
We collected my mum and drove the 30 minutes out there along some scenic roads and it was so worth taking the time. There were lots of people enjoying the river but not too many as we got there about 4pm. (I managed to get the photo so it looked like no one was there but they were!) The river was clear and cool and so refreshing. I enjoyed walking in it and looking at the stones under the water, collecting a few pretty ones to take home as a reminder of the day.
The kids went swimming and I even managed to venture in for a short swim. It was so refreshing and I felt so good afterwards. The cooling effect lasted for a long time afterwards.
The temperature on the car on the way out there told us it got up to 37 degrees C at one point so we have had a really scorcher, and at present it is still about 27 degrees and it is after 10pm! It will be hot sleeping tonight! I think when I am trying to sleep I am going to just think of the cold water rippling over the stones, the feeling of my feet in the water and the coolness of the green trees beside the river. So beautiful and wonderful memories of a hot summer day spent with family!
