Economical Decorating

We are lucky enough to have been able to invest in a holiday house a couple of years ago that we plan to renovate and rent out on a short term basis to make some income. It is a very retro looking place having been built in 1970 and never really having any decor updates since then except some paint and carpets at some point in the 90's.

We are hoping to do the renovation in a cost effective way so the place looks fresh and stylish but still has that holiday house feel in keeping with the age of the house so people feel it really is a place to get away from things and relax. Until then we have tried to make it feel comfortable and have some touches to make it feel more homely and more like our place as we inherited it fully furnished right down to the bedding and kitchenware.

So far we have changed bedding to fresh and new, a selection of new cushions and kitted out the kitchen with fresh utensils and dinnerware - many of these are thrifted and a few things at low cost from Kmart.

This little arrangement above I am quite happy with - made up of a low cost black tray and mannequin from Kmart, a vase on special at H&M, 2 wooden items thrifted for a few dollars and some pine cones found on a walk in the forest. I love the colours and textures and enjoy the challenge of finding things that give me pleasure. I hope others get some enjoyment out of them also. What do you think? What decorating have you done for very little cost that gives you joy?
