Time for a Change

I read a quote today by psychologist Wayne Dyer. He says "if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change".
Now I'm not sure exactly what context he is applying this to or whether it is intended to be applied to a range of things but I think it sums up what I am trying to write about here.

For some reason we humans need to be stimulated by the new and are constantly searching for it. I guess it helps us strive and have a sense of purpose but I do worry that it is the driver behind consumerism and the accumulation of things at the expense of the environment. Excessive manufacturing of things to satisfy this human urge is going to be a problem that we need to reverse. Sometimes I feel like we are filling the planet up with stuff!

Seeing things you already have in a new way will mean those things can be different and interesting and still bring pleasure. I guess this could be applied to material things such as clothes and furniture. Wearing different accessories with a favourite piece of clothing, changing the furniture around in a room or moving some art or ornaments to a different place. This will feel new and create interest.

Experiencing the new could also apply to things like relationships. Do something different with your partner, look at them in a new way, talk to them about something you don't usually talk about. See what it does to your relationship.

Spend time (and no money) looking more closely at things in nature and appreciate them in more detail. They are all around us and free to enjoy! We plan to do this today as we head out into some bush areas to enjoy the trees and birdlife in the rain!

What I am trying to do is give myself the sense of the new by re-looking at things I already have and, without spending any money, being able to keep myself stimulated and interested and not feeling I am going without. It will be challenging to maintain but I like a challenge and I will be interested to see how it goes and how it makes me feel. Let's see if I can keep it up!
