Home caring
Many years ago I read about how we should change from thinking about housework as being a chore to being about caring for your home and living environment. At the time I read it I did not think much about what it was saying but over the years, after doing so much housework, I have realised that it is actually a good way to approach housework which is a necessity if you don't want to live somewhere slovenly.
Now when I am caught up in the drudgery of doing housework I often use this technique to switch my thinking around so I can feel so much better about the cleaning and be pleased with my efforts. I have occasionally dabbled with the idea of paying a cleaner however the frugal in me finds it hard to pay someone else to do something that I can do and the homemaker in me wants to know that it is cleaned to the standards I expect.
Today I got some housework done - namely did the last of my ironing pile which is now sitting in the linen cupboard looking neat and tidy. I had to iron a duvet cover to make it look better before I put it back on our spare bed and although that was a chore I was so looking forward to making the room look tidy again and I could have fun arranging the pillows - taking a photo for my blog was even more motivation to get this done! Something to keep me amused and I like the satisfaction of putting together a comfortable looking bed with linens and bedding I have purchased over the years and can put together to feel new.
Looking after our home by keeping it clean and doing any maintenance as needed is also important because it is our biggest financial investment and I think this is an important thing to remember. By caring for it you are caring for yourself and your family and also making sure that you get the best turn on your investment when it is time to sell.
Have you ever thought about changing your thinking from housework to caring for your home and saving yourself angst and potentially money long term?
