Beach Walking
On a spur of the moment a good friend and I decided to go walking together to catch up while our husbands and sons went fishing together. She took me on a trail I did not know about not far from where we live where there is an active programme of pest eradication and removal of exotic plants and weeds to regenerate the native flora and fauna. It is also an area of significance historically to local Maori and it made me come home and read up more about what happened in this place so close to where we live.
The walk involved a trail through scrubland and regenerating plants, past a natural lagoon that has been remediated in recent years then back along a beach that was being enjoyed by a range of people of a summer's day. I really enjoyed myself.
We walked nearly 7km and talked 100 miles an hour as we had not caught up for a few few weeks and had lots to catch up on. It was so good for my soul. I loved being out in nature and seeing others enjoying it to. I loved discovering a new place that was easy to get to and reminded me that it is not hard to have a sense of discover not far from home. There was no pressure to be anything. No need to spend money. Valuable reconnections were made and I was left with a wonderful sense of the beauty of places so easy to get to and not visited often enough. Some things I need to make sure I do more of!
