My Old Oak Desk
As I sat writing this evening I found myself noticing the details of my oak desk that I've owned for a number of years. I bought it on Trademe and it was the auction I ever took part on. I remember feeling quite anxious about getting this but not being lured in to paying too much for it. I was delighted to end up with the highest bid and was most happy to pay $200 for what I felt was perfect for what I wanted.
It has served me well over the years but as our study had become dumping ground, and the book situation was chaotic and underwhelming, I found myself avoiding this room and not going near the desk as I wasn't inclined to use it.
Now that I have sorted the bookcase situation and some sense of order is starting to prevail in the study I have felt inclined to revisit the desk once again. I have resorted the drawers and set it up for my writing practice and I am loving being back using it again. I have enjoyed finding all the features of it again and getting familiar with the patina of its surface. I still wonder where it has been in its life which has probably been longer than mine. Who sat at it and what did they write?
I love that something I already owned can feel fresh and new again after a period of neglect and I am appreciating it all over again with pleasure! My $200 spent so many years ago was a great investment!
