Public Transport

Being away in another city for 2 weeks, while my husband has medical treatment, we have no car (by choice) so we are getting ourselves around on our feet or using public transport. There is an app we have downloaded to help us navigate the buses, trains and ferries on this service and it is proving to be really helpful.

After graduating university and getting good jobs and purchasing cars then, eventually a property in the country, we have not been users of public transport other than for our kids at times. I am sad that we are not close to a hub so it doesn't make it easy for us to use and therefore we are not able to support the environmental benefits it provides (hence we bought an electric car to offset that).

While away in this unfamiliar city I am really enjoying catching the bus to get places if it is too far to walk. The transport app is really easy to follow and the fares are well priced. We have no need to worry about trying to find a car park or pay the exorbitant parking prices we have seen advertised.

The service is so frequent that if we decide to take the bus after initially planning to walk there is usually one not far away. The train service is just as efficient and as it is not something we have at home it very much reminds us of our past times spent overseas in London, Paris, Rome and New York - albeit on a smaller scale!

Today with the rain pouring down we were very grateful to be able to catch the bus and enjoy the shelter it provided while we got to look around as we headed back to our accommodation. That is rain pouring off the side of the bus in the photo so you can only imagine how grateful we were to be sitting on it!
