A Change of Scenery

After the last few weeks of stress and uncertainty we decided we could fit a night away at our wee holiday house. The kids all had things on so it was just my husband and myself. We had various things to do before we left so we didn't leave home until 7:30 in the evening but the drive up was so lovely with the evening skies. First it was a dusting of pink as the sun set then this amazing soft blue before gradually becoming darker.

We have traveled this road quite a few times now and I always love how the same road traveled so many times can look so different depending on the weather or the time of day and the angles of the sunlight. I have wondered at times if I will ever get sick of this drive but there are so many different types of countryside just in the 90 minute drive that I don't think I ever will. We drive across the plains with flat farmland making way for soft slopes planted with vineyards in neat rows. There is a pass through limestone rock formations from ancient sea beds and some rugged hills traversed by rivers that we cross and drive alongside. The area where our holiday is located is in an alpine village set at the back of a large basin formed on a fault line where there is a junction between two parts of the fault. There are natural hot pools and forests rising up to mountains at the back.

I can never tire of this beautiful scenery and when I need to recharge my soul it is always good to take a drive and see these places anew - knowing when we get there we can relax and unwind and get ready for the next stressors life throws our way.
