The Road Less Travelled

Today my husband and I had a another road trip to take as we have had to head down and collect our eldest daughter from university. Things have not worked out for her this year with her course and her flatting situation and her health and her worries about her father's health. She has decided to withdraw for now and come home and reevaluate what she wants to do.

We decided that while were making the trip that we have done many times before we would take the opportunity to go and check out some side roads we have never been down before but have always commented on seeing.

This road is one named after my husband's ancestors who first came out to New Zealand in the 1800's and every time we drive past it we wonder what is down it. Today we found out. It is long and graveled and ends in a dead end at a bridge doing over to private property. It is also very narrow and made for a challenge to turn around with a trailer attached to the back of the car but I managed it!

We stopped and took some photos and felt satisfied that we now know what this road looks like and imagine it might not have changed much from when his family first settled in this part of the country. Taking this small detour satisfied a curiosity and made a familiar trip feel a bit different while providing some new vistas to photograph.

It is a quite reminder that taking the road less traveled can sometimes take a bit of extra effort but can be well worth it as you never know what you might find or where it might take you!
