DIY Moving

In all the times we have ever moved house we have never paid a moving company to do this for us. I find the concept of paying other people to pack up our things carefully enough then shift them without damage a challenge. I am sure there are reliable companies out there but I am sure you also pay a premium for the privilege of using them and when we can do it ourselves...

Today was a huge day packing up my daughter's things then loading them onto the trailer and in the back of the car before driving for 5 hours to get home. On arrival we unloaded everything into the garage to deal with them another day and nothing was broken or damaged in the process.

It was a big job but we managed it just fine and I think a number of things come out of doing it this way. Not least the money we saved in bringing her gear home but also getting her home as opposed to paying for a bus or plane trip. She also learned about the option of doing things for herself and the satisfaction of this and when you are a cash-strapped student this is an important lesson. 

We also all  learned just how much stuff a person can acquire in a year away from home and how my house, which I was working on de-cluttering, can now feel like it is overflowing again! The joys of boomerang children!!
