If the Shoe Fits...
We attended a wedding today of my husband's niece and the ceremony was held outdoors in the garden at a vineyard on a beautiful sunny day. As it was to be a garden wedding I had decided it called for a pretty dress. To avoid the expense of a whole new outfit I got out a dress I've owned for many years (how old does it have to be to be considered vintage?) I wore this dress a lot over the years but haven't worn it for at least 10 years and theoretically I should have discarded it according to de-cluttering rules however I have always loved it and felt too sentimental to get rid of it. I decided it would be perfect for today.
I chose to wear it with some strappy cream shoes I have owned for at least 18 years and have always loved but don't wear often enough. I don't think I have worn these shoes with this dress in the whole time I have owned them so it felt like a new outfit. I paired it with a cream shawl and a beautiful cloche style hat I bought from a real milliner back in the 90's and I felt quite lovely and summery. I was pleased to have some old favourites on and felt it suited the day just fine and cost me and the planet nothing! And to confirm my choice was right I ended up sitting next to a woman at the reception who confessed in the course of our conversation that the classic linen dress she was wearing was 25 years old so i wasn't the only one thinking it was best to bring out something timeless that you love.
