Art Immersion

Today's event wasn't exactly a budget event and I did feel it cost more than it needed to however it was really interesting and a different way to experience art. I was an interactive exhibition of Vincent Van Gogh's work and I did enjoy spending an hour immersed in the beautiful images, music and quotes they displayed.

My husband and I have been to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam over 20 years ago and I remember then being impressed by the collection of his work and the textures and colours of his paintings. Today's exhibition showed pieces of his I had not seen before and included some beautiful Japanese style botanical paintings that I loved. I always knew he had written letters to his brother Theo however have never read them and today I gained an appreciation of his beautiful writing through quotes that proved so insightful. The whole thing was set to a score of mostly classical music that brought it all to life.

After the main event we were able to walk through a "field" of sunflowers. The play of the mirrors was very effective and made it feel like the flowers went on forever. A very immersive experience and after reading how Van Gogh felt these flowers were his it felt a bit like you were able to connect with a man who lived many years before and has left an amazing legacy for the world - something he never knew in his own lifetime having only managed to sell one painting and struggling with his mental health for much of his life.
After coming home from the exhibition I managed to find most of the classical pieces of music on Spotify so I have made a playlist and now have a new selection of music to enjoy. The exhibition has sparked something in me and inspired me to look at art more but I think next time I will seek it out in places where I can enjoy it for little or no cost next time!
