Afternoon Tea Break

Today has been a somewhat draining day both physcally and emotionally. I had to get up very early for an appointment I had in the city. The sun wasn't even up when I arrived for this! Then I had to head home and take my husband to the hospital for an MRI scan to see if the treatment is working to keep his brain cancer at bay following his surgery in February. It means the next few days will be spent on edge waiting and worrying about the result.

As a treat on the way home from the hospital I stopped and got a pile of library books for us to look at and once home I took the time to rest and calm my busy mind.
A chai latte satchet made into a creamy hot drink felt like a real treat (a box of 10 sachets costs about the same as buying one in a cafe), a buttered hot cross bun pulled from my stash in the freezer and my latest read (a book that I highly recommend reading as it is a fascinating account of the AIDS epidemic in the 80's in America). This all enjoyed in the lounge I don't often get to lunge in and it was just what I needed for some restoration to continue on the next stage of our journey. not much effort or cost to do this yet so valuable to keep me in the right headspace and rested enough to cope with what we might have ahead.
When did you last take a proper break and take the time to savour it? To see it for its benefits and not feel guilty that you weren't doing something else that was on your list? Make time today - you will reap the rewards!
