Crazy Possum Adventures

For several months we have had a wily possum hanging around our house. He appeared at the bathroom window in the middle of the night a few months back - sitting up on the fence and peering through the crack and did not run away when we shone the torch on him. We've set a trap but he has not been caught.

He seems to be a bit cheeky, or mad. This photo I took several weeks ago when I heard a noise outside when I was reading in bed. I put on the outside light and pulled back the curtain and there he was sitting on the back of one of our outside chairs staring at me. He didn't even flinch when I pulled back the curtain. I was able to sit and stare and take photos and call the kids through. I did wonder if there was a possibility he was blind.
He is naughty as he has been chewing the timber cladding on our garage. Tonight he was crazy as he was running back and forth on the roof and when my husband and daughter went out to try and shoot him he came flying off the roof straight at them in super-hero mode!. It gave them both a sudden fright to see this possum flying at them!
These animals are a big pest in New Zealand as they were introduced in the 19th century to establish a fur trade. Unfortunately they flourished in this country and proceeded to decimate our native flora and fauna.
He has to go! So tomorrow we are going to borrow the neighbours cage trap and see if we can catch him...
