Great Expectations

I have been pondering today about the idea that our expectations are the thing that results in disappointment much of the time. There is a saying I like that

"all disappointment comes from unmet expectation".

This says to me that it is important to keep our expectations realistic to reduce the chance of feeling disappointed. We have to watch in doing this that we can still allow ourselves the chance to have a certain level of expectation about things - it is just important to keep them realistic.

Why have I been pondering this? Because we head to the doctor tomorrow to get my husband's scan results and I feel sick with worry. I am playing mind games with myself over and over trying to think of all the possible scenarios and I know that in this situation I will feel devastated if the news is bad even if I try to prepare myself by expecting the worst. What to do? All we can do is keep moving forward and make the best of whatever situation we are faced with.

To brighten things a bit I wanted to show the gorgeous chocolates I ate a while back on a trip. These were provided by our Air BnB host and my expectation was that these chocolates might look fancier than they tasted but I was pleasantly surprised. They were divine and far exceeded my expectations.

Maybe having lower expectations is the way to go. What do you think?
