Nightscapes

It is easy to race through life being busy and not stopping to take in the things around me. That old adage about stopping to smell the roses really does ring true - even moreso now that life has got more busy and full of things to learn, read, see and worry about (I'm talking about the internet here which has been a blessing and a curse when it comes to stealing time).

There is something about the trees down our driveway when they have lost all of their leaves in winter and the car lights light them up. They look ethereal and majestic, ghostly and silent. I often drive slowly just to enjoy looking at them this way - not often seen like this unless we come home after dark and usually at this time I have finished rushing for the day so I can take the time to enjoy them.

Tonight we had a potluck dinner at friends which was a lovely way to spend the evening and this was there to greet us when we got home. Strong and silent and patiently waiting for us to drive past and admire their beauty.
It got me thinking about how it really takes little effort and no money to stop and notice the everyday things around us that we are at risk of taking for granted. They can offer us so much of we just stop and take the time to see.
