A Lockdown Birthday

My middle child turned 18 today and the challenge we had was how to celebrate it well while in lockdown. I think in the end we succeeded well on all counts and she was happy!

She wanted to bake her own cake - which I was happy with as cake making is not one of my strong points. She also wanted sushi so she made that with my eldest and it turned out really well and I enjoyed listening to them working well together as they made it.

While they did that I got to make the pink gin cocktails that are much my forte. She was keen to try one and now that she can legally drink in our country I thought it would be reasonable and make something special for the meal. They turned out well and looked great in the gin glasses my sister gave me for Christmas last year. Decorated with frozen raspberries they were delicious!

She finished the day with a zoom party with all of her friends and judging by the giggling and screeches coming from her room I figured she enjoyed it immensely. Not your typical 18th birthday but it was her 18th birthday experience and I think she was happy with it. A day she'll certainly never forget!
