Clothing Remodel
As part of my attempts to spend less, save money and reduce consumption this year I have avoided buying too many clothes. I have so far managed to go with very few clothing purchases and these have been things needed to pad out my wardrobe so that I am able to wear clothes I already have in a new way and to replace worn items. To date between January and July I have purchased a new bra, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 long sleeved t shirts and a new winter coat.
Last week while we were away my friend and I went thrift shopping and I ended up buying 5 new tops for the grand total of $81.50. One of then still had tags on! They were all brands from stores that you would normally pay around $100-150 per item of clothing so I felt like I was getting a good deal (plus helping to save the planet while donating to charity - win-win-win!)
This pretty top was in a colour I love and is soft and feminine but it did have sleeves that were far too long and a bit ridiculous. I thought it looked pretty on and was only $20.00 having probably retailed new for around $150.00. I couldn't leave it behind!
Today I unpicked one layer from each sleeve and what a difference it made! (The first photo shows the sleeves before and after to compare them). No sewing was needed and now I have a new top to enjoy for a bargain! And to top it off the part I unpicked is beautifully pleated and of the right proportion that I will probably be able to use as curtains in my miniature house so I am happy all round!
