Nighttime Walking
My eldest daughter has decided to do some internet challenge called 75Hard which includes a number of challenges to do each day for 75 days. She has adapted it a bit to suit her needs however she has chosen to include 2 seesions of 45 minutes doing some physical activity. One of those sessions must be outside.
She worked all of today and needed to fit in her second session of exercise before bed but it needed to be an outside walk and as it was after dark I went along to keep her company. We rugged up warmly as there had been some forecasting of snow so the air was chilly and crisp. I put a headlamp on to avoid carrying a torch and to light our way as we live rurally so no streetlights to guide us.
It was really good to have a walk and talk about things and get some fresh air. It was gratifying to spend a different time of day walking a path we have done so many times in the daylight - experiencing different sounds and smells and a different sensation of feeling slightly on edge not being able to see too far ahead or behind. It made me reflect on how things that can feel the same day after day can feel so different if we just approach them from a different perspective. No cost involved yet a vastly changed perspective that can add so much more to life.
At the end of the walk it was good to come back into a warm house and shed some layers before settling down for an evening cup of tea before bed. I am sure this is something I need to do more of - night time walking!
