100 Miles

Today started a little differently to our usual Saturday morning. We ended up being awoken early as my cousin was running a 100 mile race and his partner had rung to say he was expected to finish a couple of hours earlier than expected. We jumped out of bed and dressed to head down to watch him complete it. He did this in under 24 hours!

The race was through the forest on a 10km circuit that had to be completed 16 times to make the 160km (100mile). It was a beautiful spot to be in as we waited in the cool morning air all rugged up. It was exciting to see him coming across the bridge and heading towards the finish line with a smile on his face!
I can't imagine the stamina needed to do something like that. This is his 6th 100mile race and I am proud to say he is related to me. It was great to be up and doing something different on our Saturday morning and to get to enjoy being in nature as we waited and then to spend time catching up with family. This is so valuable to me and money can not buy anything like this. Even better the only effort on our part that required stamina was getting out of our warm cosy bed on a chilly morning!
