Floodwaters

Being Monday it was grocery day and it is easy to get into such routine that you just take the same route to get there, do the same walk around the supermarket and take the same route home. Today on our way there my husband and I took a detour to go and marvel at the large river near where we live which is the fullest I have ever seen it. We parked up and walked along the new cycle path that is attached to the main bridge crossing the river.

It is normally a braided river and blue in colour but not today. It was large and dirty and turbulent and high up under the bridges like nothing I've ever seen before. It is draining all of the rain that has come down in the foothills plus the water from its tributaries. It spanned from one stopbank to the other covering areas that normally have vehicle and walking trails, partly burying the trees.

It was kind of exciting to be out in the wild weather in our rain gear standing above this magnificent being that Mother nature has created. I'm sure those who live near the stop banks don't see it that way - although there is still quite a bit of volume to go before it would spill over the top. We only hope it manages to stay contained within this area as it is still raining. Hopefully it will stop soon!

I must say I am glad we took the detour. We had a different trip to the grocery store, we got some exercise, we got some fresh air and we got to see a one in 100 year event - hopefully it wont happen again for a long time!
